My name is Richard Bailey and I am the landlord of the Rose and Crown, Great Waltham, where I am the joint licensee with Laura Whiting.  Many of you may know the pub formerly as the Great Waltham, but I have now restored the pub's original name. 

For 10 years I was landlord at the Green Man, Howe Street, where I made many friends.  This opportunity at the 'Rose' allows me to offer the same friendly welcome, a variety of Real Ales and a country menu featuring local produce, cooked in a traditional way.

For many years I was a farmer and I am passionate about country pursuits and maintaining the rural traditions of the Essex Countryside.

The pub specialises in REAL ALE.  Always on tap are Sharp's Doom Bar, plus two local guest ales which change weekly, e.g. Nethergate, Mauldons, Crouch Vale and Mighty Oak.

Horse Racing has always been one of my hobbies and on Saturday we enjoy watching Channel 4 and Racing UK in the Snug. 
Also, once a month we "go racing", starting with breakfast in the pub.  A coach takes us to and from the track and on return, a two course dinner.  £40 per person, £75 per couple.

Restaurant
The comfortable small private dining area seats 20, plus 16 in the bar.  The dining area is also available for private functions, please ring Richard or Laura.
